I bought my domain myself through Google Domains to use with UltimateWB website builder. I just heard that Google Domains is being sold to Squarespace – do you know how will this affect me? I chose UltimateWB over Squarespace and want to keep using UltimateWB.
Google Domains Sold to Squarespace: What Does This Mean for You?
Google has announced that it is selling its Google Domains business to Squarespace. The deal, which is reportedly worth $180 million, will see Squarespace take over the management of 10 million domain names that are currently registered with Google Domains.
This news may have you wondering what it means for you, a Google Domains customer. Here’s what you need to know:
What will happen to my domain name?
Your domain name will be transferred from Google Domains to Squarespace as the registrar. It will not change your nameservers which is what connects your domain name to your website servers, in this case the UltimateWB web servers. You will continue to own your domain name, and you will not have to take any action to keep it.
Will my domain name rates change?
Your domain name rates are likely to stay the same. Squarespace has said that it plans to offer the same pricing and features as Google Domains.
Will my customer support experience change?
Your customer support experience may change slightly. Squarespace will be handling customer support for Google Domains, but you will still be able to contact Google for help with other products and services.
What about the future of Google Domains?
It’s unclear what the future holds for Google Domains after the sale to Squarespace. It’s possible that Google will continue to offer a limited domain registration service through its other products, such as Google Workspace. It’s also possible that Google will eventually shut down Google Domains altogether.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Google Domains.
Hope this helps!
