Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder of Automattic, recently found himself at the center of an unusual legal dispute with WP Engine. This legal battle has led to a peculiar new requirement on WordPress.org: a checkbox asking users to confirm that “Pineapple is delicious on pizza.”
To comply with a court injunction that required the removal of a checkbox asking users to confirm they were not affiliated with WP Engine, WordPress.org opted for the simplest solution: the pineapple pizza checkbox. This workaround required minimal code changes, making it an efficient way to adhere to the court’s order.
The pineapple pizza debate has long been a contentious issue, and this new requirement has reignited the discussion. While some users find the checkbox humorous, others view it as a frivolous and unnecessary addition to the login process.
