Classified ads website builder questions: distance search, filters, search functions
Hi,
I am looking at your software to start a website but I am not a very tech savvy person.  I want to do a classified ad site much along the lines of a craigslist type of site but not selling products like craigslist.   Does your software include encrypted email?  Can a person using the site search for ads in their area (within 5 kms  or 10kkms etc) and can it be tailored for different types of filters....examples would be, dates of ads posted, price points that need to be included in the ad, gender and or age also to be specified in the ad?

Thank you in advance for your help in this matter

Hi Elaine,

UltimateWB Full includes the built-in Classifieds app (and Listings app which is for more of a yellow pages directory).

Currently it does not include encrypted email addresses like craigslist uses to not show the users' emails, but it does incorporate Private Messaging, so that members can communicate directly on your website without disclosing their contact info.  Also, you can allow commenting/rating on each ad (and also allow posters to turn off commenting if you want).

UltimateWB Full 4.4 which is planned to be released soon actually includes the distance search in the filter/search/advanced search tools for the Classifieds app and Listings app.  You can customize the distance options, as well as whether to display it in km or miles or both.  Purchasing the software at any time will include this upgrade, as each software license purchase includes 1 year free of any software updates released.  This upgrade is actually already available for testing/viewing on our UltimateWB Full demos at https://www.ultimatewb.com/demolinks .

From the Classifieds app you can navigate into the categories you have created.  You can include a top filter menu to filter through ad types, country, state, city, and by distance.  These options are also searchable in the search/advanced search tools if you choose to include those in your website.  Search/advanced search tools may also include search by keyword, in the title, tags, and/or description (with option all allow user to choose which to search in/search in all).  The advanced search tool may include any custom fields that you have created on a category/type basis that you have marked as searchable.  These custom fields can be configured on a category/type basis, and when marked as searchable, will display on the advanced search form when that category/type is chosen.   Additionally, you can add a sort menu at the top to sort through ads displayed in a catgory by name, price, date posted, date ad expires, type, likes, views, comments, and distance too, both ascending and descending order.

There are lots of customization options!  You can get a good idea on how the setup works on the Classifieds User Manual article here: https://www.ultimatewb.com/classifieds-app/create-customize-integrate-classifieds-section .  We have video tutorials covering the general website design setup, and social networking setup, available at https://www.ultimatewb.com/video-tutorials .Hope this helps!

Please feel free to email if you have any further questions.  You can check out what our customers say on our Testimonials page at https://www.ultimatewb.com/testimonials-software-reviews .  And some samples of sites built on UltimateWB on our Showcase page at https://www.ultimatewb.com/showcase .

Thanks for the info!...one last quick question. When the site first goes up I intend to allow members to do free ad posting but after I reach a certain number of users/ads I'd like to change it to a pay per ad posted....it will be a nominal fee; is that easy to incorporate and can the site accept credit cards as well as PayPal?
Thanks again!

Sure, no problem - feel free to ask any more questions you have too!

The Classifieds app does have several options to charge for ads - based on category, add-on options - such as photos, videos, making an ad featured, bold, or highlighted, and the length of time the ad displays.  You can choose to make all ads free in the beginning and then start charging for certain things later, just by configuring it from your website Admin Panel.  You can also set a limit on the number of active free ads a user/member can have.

Ads can be paid for via the Credits System (users buy the credits on your website), or via PayPal.  PayPal itself allows for users to pay via their PayPal account (with a credit card, check or PayPal balance) or via credit card without a PayPal account required for non-subscription items (provided that credit card is not connected with a PayPal account).

Once a user pays for the ad, you can configure it so that their ad is automatically activated when the payment is confirmed (via Credits or PayPal), or alternatively you can choose to manually activate.

You can also allow user-to-user transactions directly on your website, to be carried out via the  Credits System, or via PayPal, and charge for a transaction fee.

By the way, regarding having payments via Credits which members can buy on your website - you can also set it up so that they can earn credits too, via the Rewards app.  For example, members can gain credits from posting or commenting or liking.  You can read more on the Rewards app in the User Manual topic here: https://www.ultimatewb.com/rewards-app/create-customize-points-credits-rewards-system .  You can find all the User Manual category topics here: https://www.ultimatewb.com/user-manual-how-to-guide (under the ultimatewb.com Resources tab).

Sorry I didnt completely understand your answer, I want to be able to charge per ad posted after I have enough traffic to the site that people will see value for their posting. Will it be possible to charge per ad or will it be limited to charging only if the poster chooses certain upgrade features in their ad ie: bold print etc?  If this feature doesn't come included in the software would it be possible to customize it in?  I just want to make sure that when I make my purchase I get as close to my vision as possible.

Yes, you can charge per ad even without the add-on options being chosen:

(1) By setting a price on the Classifieds category they are posting in.  This is so you can vary the pricing on the different categories if you want.

(2) By setting a price on the Run Time - the length of time the user chooses to have the ad display on your website. I.e. if the user chooses to have the ad display for a week, you can have it be free, or for a month you can charge $5, for example.  This prcing and time periods are all customizablefrom your website admin panel.

These costs are set up to be flat rate costs. The add-on options are configured to be a subscription cost which you can set up how much to charge, and how often.

Hope it's clearer now!
